John Wayne Berndgen of Havana, Florida passed away and went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2024 at the age of 93. John was born September 4, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George Wayne Berndgen and Mary Elizabeth (McIneaney) Berndgen. There he attended Roosevelt High School and played football, baseball, and basketball. He also enjoyed hunting duck, pheasant, rabbits and he loved fishing with his buddies.

He joined the U.S. Army on the buddy system where he met his wife of 71 years, Barbara Ann Johnson. During that time, they had three children: son Michael, daughter, Barbara Gail, and son Zachary. He moved to Tallahassee approximately 70 years ago where he was employed by The Tallahassee Democrat and The Municipal Code Corp. For fun, he enjoyed coaching his kids in football, baseball, golf and whatever else they got into. He moved to Havana almost 50 years ago and picked back up the game of golf. For his love of the Lord, he attended a few churches until he found his home at the First Presbyterian Church in Havana. John was also a man that would go without so others could (especially his family).

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Brice of Montana, and son-in-law John Hill of Spring, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Berndgen of Havana, children Michael Wayne Berndgen (Marie) of Plantation, FL, Barbara Gail Hill of Spring, TX, and Zachary Wayne Berndgen (Wendy) of Havana, FL. Two grandchildren John Michael Berndgen and Michelle Berndgen of Plantation, FL. Three nieces Fiona Nave, Vicki and Valerie of Montana.

The Berndgen family would like to give thanks to Pastor Luis, Bill Bess, Faith Funeral Home, The Courys, Mrs. Cumbie and all the wonderful family at the First Presbyterian Church, as well as all the friends and neighbors abroad, for the love and support for this family.

The family will receive friends at Faith Funeral Home Chapel, 6972 FL / GA Highway, Havana, FL, on Monday, March 18, 2024 from 5-7 PM.
