Obituary

John Kenneth Gilchrist passed away at the age of 79 on April 20, 2023. He was born in Tallahassee on April 20, 1944. 
 After residing in Tallahassee for over 50 years, he moved to Reston just outside of Scotland, Florida.  John proudly served in the Florida National Guard from 1967 to 1972.  He retired from the Florida Department of Transportation in 2003. 
 John enjoyed the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and was a wildlife advocate.  He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association of America and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  He was a member of the Soapstone Creek Hunting Club where he was known as “the Spoon” to his fellow hunters.  John also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Havana Country Club. 
 John was preceded in death by his parents, Terry and Sara Gilchrist.  He leaves behind his sister, Terri Habershaw of Dillard, Georgia, his extended family, Alissa and Lee Perdue, grandson Hagen Perdue and granddaughter Malone Perdue of Tallahassee, Florida, niece Cassie Brown and nephew Todd Habershaw of Ormond Beach, Florida, and many close friends. He also leaves behind his faithful companion Hailee, his English Cocker Spaniel. 
At John’s request there will be no memorial service. In John’s own words…” I wish all my friends happiness and good health.”
