Jean Lowe Collinsworth

January 30, 1938 — May 30, 2023

Havana, Florida

Jean Lowe Collinsworth, 85, of Havana, Florida, passed away on May 30, 2023, at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida.

Jean was born January 30, 1938, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.  She is the daughter of the late Jenkins and Pennie Lowe.  Jean and her late husband Alto were married June 5, 1955, and moved to Tallahassee where she worked for Capital City Bank before working as an accountant at Florida State University for 30 years.  She and Alto were avid Seminoles fans and are among FSU’s most longstanding football season ticket holders.  She and Alto belonged to various camping clubs and following their retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and attending music festivals where they made many friends.

Jean and Donna, her only child, were best friends. They were happiest when they were together and were referred to as the Collinsworth Girls.  They enjoyed an occasional girls’ day out, complete with a visit to their favorite nail salon and dinner out, followed by a feel-good Hallmark movie.

Jean’s grandsons, Brooks and Brett, were among her greatest sources of joy.  She loved cooking their favorite meals and especially loved when they called her for instructions on learning to cook things “Mema’s way.”  Her fried cornbread will always be a family favorite.  Mema was often entertained by watching videos of her great-grandchildren: Bobby Cash’s excellent baseball skills; Keeton’s swimming skills; and Monroe Katherine’s dance recitals.

Jean was a member of Concordia Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Her hobbies included reading books and solving crossword puzzles (in ink) often completing the entire puzzle before comparing answers with her sister, Mildred.

Mrs. Collinsworth’s survivors include her daughter Donna Jean Collinsworth; two grandsons, Brooks Anthony Brandewie (wife Katie) and Brett Andrew Brandewie (wife Laura); and three great-grandchildren: Bobby Cash, Keeton Bradford, and Monroe Katherine.  She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Williamson and Earlene Johns; a loving family friend Terry Corkery; and a host of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.  She is predeceased by her husband Franklin Alto Collinsworth; her parents; and siblings Helen Woodall, John Frank Lowe, Grady Lowe, Tommy Lowe, and Dorenda Curry.
