James (Jim) Clarence Morgan

January 4, 1931 — July 23, 2021

Havana, Florida

James Clarence Morgan III (Jim) passed away at home, in Havana, July 23, 2021. He was 90 years old and the cause of death was to many good times.
Celebration of Life Memorial: Sunday August 1st @ Havana Golf and Country Club 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Friends and Family welcome. Please wear casual or golf attire.
Born in Greenwood Florida, he attended high school in both Greenwood and Havana Florida. He was an avid athlete winning two state championships in high school basketball. He was a founding member of the Havana Golf and Country Club. Golf became his passion. He played
golf 3-4 times a week for over 50 years making wonderful friends and memories that lasted his lifetime. Fishing was another passion of his made possible by the pink boat. After attending FSU, He joined the Navy. His dream was to become a pilot but his hopes were dashed when he failed the medical exam. He had flat feet and that was a deal breaker if you wanted to be a pilot in the 1950's. He settled for the next best thing, air traffic controller.
After the Navy he worked for Flowers Industries driving a bread truck. He married Mary Webb May in 1954 and they were married for 63 years until her death in 2017. The furniture business would carry him into retirement.
He became co-owner of Arrington Morgan Furniture in the early 60's and would later buy out his partner. He was active in community service volunteering on the Havana Fire Department and serving as a Havana Town Councilman. Arrington Morgan Furniture became his second home until it went up in flames, literally. The business burned down on a cold January morning in 1980. A couple of months later he opened a Badcock Home Furnishings dealership with Toby Bryan and later bought Toby out . He retired from Badcock in 1995. Any writing of Jim would be amiss without mentioning his partners in crime ( all deceased)
Fred Collins (brother in law), Mark Morgan (cousin) and Bert Morgan (cousin). They were business partners and good friends. Fame and fortune on a grand scale eluded them but not for the lack of trying.
They were all consummate story tellers, and the experiences created by their business shenanigans made for great Thanksgiving Eve campfire stories. Another mention that must be made is of his loving sister (deceased) whom he affectionately called "Sister", Marilyn Collins. He loved her dearly.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather survived by his daughter, Melissa Cooper, sons, Rick (Theresa) Morgan, Fletcher (Lisa) Morgan and Mac Morgan. Grandchildren Kyle (Jenna) Cooper, Oliver Dax Cooper, Ben (Kristin) Morgan, Mary Katherine Morgan, Sam Morgan and Meagan (Matthew) Morgan Bridges. Great grandchildren, Brenna, Cole, Chase Cooper and Collin and Charlotte Bridges.
