Dorothy May Bunck

Dorothy May Bunck, 98, formerly of Cape Coral and Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away on April 21, 2021. She was born on March 25, 1923, in Battle Creek, Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Everett Peter Bunck, in 2012. They were married on June 15, 1945. Following her graduation from high school, she attended Carthage College and Church Music was the focus of her interest. Dorothy and Everett served in St. Croix, Virgin Islands and in Jackson, Michigan; and in 1961 they moved to Cape Coral, Florida, to start Christ Lutheran Church where they served for over 20 years. After her husband’s retirement in 1984, Dorothy was hired as the organist/choir director at St. Michaels and all Angels in Sanibel, Florida. Dorothy was also a founding member of the Southwest Florida Symphony where she played cello.

Dorothy was active in professional and community organizations including AAUW and Calusa Musical. In 2019 Dorothy moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to be closer to family and to live at Allegro Senior Living.Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, her music, and encouraging others. During a recent conversation, Dorothy commented on teaching cello to adult students while she still lived in Ft. Myers. It was brought up just how encouraging she was to others throughout her lifetime. Dorothy paused after hearing those words, and said, “I guess that was a good way to spend a lifetime.”Oh, yes, Dorothy! That was a good way to spend a lifetime!

She has left her family and friends with many inspiring and loving memories. Mrs. Bunck is survived by four children, two sons, Ted (Christine) Bunck of Verona, Wisconsin; Tim (Linda) Bunck of Cape Coral, Florida; two daughters, Elizabeth Bunck of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Margaret Bunck-McClearn of Tallahassee, Florida.  And two grandchildren, Manda( Brian) Michaelis of Tallahassee, Florida, and David Bunck of San Diego, California, and two great-grandchildren, Caira Scott and Brice Google.
