William (Duck) Maxwell

William H. “Duck” Maxwell, 80, passed away at home on Sunday, January 25, 2026. He was born to Angus & Nancy Maxwell on September 22, 1945, in Reno, Georgia.

He was widely known as Duck Maxwell, few knowing his given name.

He married Betty Jean Whittle of Havana and raised seven girls, telling everyone that he enjoyed every minute of it.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and family time and telling long-ago stories with his children and grandchildren.

He was a dedicated 52-year employee with Peavy & Son Construction Company in Havana, Florida, having no accidents or citations during his employment and driving over 2 million miles.

He is survived by his daughters Angela Pace and husband Raymond Pace of Tallahassee, Ginger Edenfield and her husband Wallace Edenfield Sr. of Sycamore, Lisa Ryder of Sycamore, Betty Jo Maxwell-Brown and her husband Mike Brown of Tallahassee, and his son Carl Moore and his wife Theresa of Havana.

Grandchildren Darrell Steffen, Shay Steffen, Johnny Steffen, Bill Hattaway, Brittany Pace, Kiley Tointigh, Jeny Wilson, Joey Crews, Justin Crews, Wally Edenfield, Waylon Edenfield, Mara Ryder, Aubrey Brown and Ashlyn Brown.

Great Grandchildren Pamela Steffen, Levi Steffen, Kaylee Steffen, Austin Yzaguirre, Destiny Steffen, Ally Otero, Eva Steffen, Wiley Hattaway, Kameron Tointigh, Ava Crews, JJ Crews, Salem Crews, Wayden Edenfield, Adley Edenfield, Alex Gomez, Weston Edenfield, Joltin Cooper, and is expecting another Great-grandson Jackson Cooper in March.

Great Great Grandchildren Ayla, Aveyon, Medjai, Mateo, Melina, Meli, Annaliese, Emmanel, Mason, Anna and is expecting another Great great grandchild later this year.

A special friend Deborah Hamm, her children Zack, Kat, and Rebecca, and their children Jackson, Bennett and Jonathan.

As well and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Whittle Maxwell, daughters Pam Diaz, Kathy Marra, and Robin Gregg, his sisters Jimmie Lou Cooper, Mildred Johnson, and his brother Melvin Maxwell.

The Maxwell family will receive friends on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5 until 7:00 PM at Faith Funeral Home in Havana (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com)
