William Albert Smith

January 29, 1953 — January 22, 2026

Havana, Florida

William A. Smith III age 72, passed away on January 22, 2026, in the comfort of his home with his dogs by his side. He is survived by his wife Maria Smith and son Nicholas Smith. “Dubby” as he was known to his family was born in Baltimore Maryland, the son of William A. Smith Jr. and Margaret Vivian Smith. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret E. Smith.

Bill, as he was known to his friends, loved to work outside and with his hands, which led him to a career as a general contractor, where he felt great pride in building custom homes. He also enjoyed working on his vehicles and his Honda Goldwing. This all started as a young man when he restored a 1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, that his future wife described as a “just a very old car” to her friends after their 1st date. He continued working on cars throughout his life. Even recently he was helping members of his church and his son work on their vehicles.

Dubby married Maria Teresa de Los Angeles Morales on November 17, 1979, in Baltimore, Maryland. He and Maria bought a home in Frederick, Maryland in 1981 and he quickly renovated the home to install a guest suite and an attached garage to the house. They spent the next 20+ years in Maryland, eventually welcoming a son, Nicholas Smith, in 1994. Bill passed on his love of motorcycles and vehicles to his son, who learned how to maintain and repair vehicles with his father as a young teenager. That love eventually led to his son buying a motorcycle at 18 years old.

In the early 2000’s, Bill moved his family to Florida to reunite his loving wife and son with his father-in-law, following his belief of promoting strong family unit. He considered being a father his most important accomplishment and held great pride in his son’s successes as well as his marriage to Bethany Grace Hammett. He was a strong believer in higher education, encouraging Nicholas from a very early age to become an engineer.

He will be missed by many, including his friends Mary & Michael Januk, Deb Davenport, Teresa & Rosie Dean, Franklin & Magaly Espino, his cousins Ayda & Lou Kortesis, German & Elba Santander and his family Maria, Nicholas, and Bethany Smith; Saleh, Maram, & Haia Mustafa, Linda Liz Ramos Jorge Nieves, Angie Ramos & Efren Gines and many others.
