Mrs. Tommy Barber Ogletree 90, of Westminster Oaks, widow of Presbyterian Minister, Reverend B.F. Ogletree, Jr. died Saturday July 26, 2008 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
The Graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 am Wednesday July 30, 2008 at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee, with her memorial service at 2:00 pm that same day at Westminister Oaks Gallery 4449 Meandering Way at the Parry Center. Mrs Ogletree was born, educated, and married in Atlanta, GA. As a child her minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, was Dr. Peter Marshall, who later left the church to become Chaplain of the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C. She attended the Atlanta branch of Moody Bible College, and Business College. She was a bookkeeper, auditor, and secretary to the Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Atlanta.
Mrs Ogletree was a missionary to the slums of Atlanta, with five student groups from Columbia Theological Seminary where her husband, Barney was studying for his ministry. She organized and taught many children's Bible studies and music groups.
She and her husband served churches in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. She organized, administered, and taught a weekday Kindergarten at the Presbyterian Church in Chattahoochee, FL. She taught in the kindergarten at Faith Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee during its first year.
She has been a member of Faith Presbyterian Church for 48 years.
She was responsible for organizing a support group at the Diabetic Center in Tallahassee. She served two terms, each, of President, Vice-president, Chaplain, and Secretary of the Tallahassee Hospitality Club. She was Wednesday Chapel Chairman for two years at Westminster Oaks Retirement Village. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, and the Holy Land, also touring all United States.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janice Baggett (and husband James) of Tallahassee; and Joyce Ogletree of Tucker, GA.; two grandsons, Jonathon Baggett of Tallahassee, and Jeffrey Baggett (and wife Mary) of Havana. a sister Lucille Allen of Clearwater, FL. And several nephews and cousins.
