Biography

Theodore L. Harris Sr., 85, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 1, 2013 in Tallahassee.

Theo was born in Woodville on August 2, 1928 to William and Annie Lee Harris. He proudly served in the United States Navy and is a World War II Veteran. Theo was in law enforcement for 43 years, serving on the Tallahassee Police Department, the Leon County Sheriff's Department, and as Mexico Beach Chief of Police.

Theo was a proud charter member and a deacon at Seminole Baptist Church. He loved his Lord, church, family and friends and the beach. Theo always enjoyed spending time planting and tending to his garden, and sharing his crops with his friends.

He is survived by his children Teddy Harris (Som) and Serita Teal (Ronnie); grandchildren Brandi Markiewicz (Erik and children Grant Theodore and Jack Edward), SSGT Matt Harris (Alyssa and children Braylei Hazel and Rylen Fischer), Ron Teal and Deana Teal. He is also survived by his wife Kathyrn, his sister Annie Maude, and a much loved daughter-in-law Lee. He is preceded in death by his first wife Hazel.

Two memorial services will be held to honor the life of Theo. White Church of Woodville on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 6:30pm, and at Seminole Baptist Church of Tallahassee on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00am.

Memorial donations may be made to Seminole Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund or St. Francis Wildlife Association.
