Biography

Robert Ferrell 63, of Havana, FL. passed away Friday, August 5, 2011,
after a difficult illness, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. FL.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11,
2011 at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, with Pastor Bill Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at
Woodland Cemetery in Havana.
Bob was a quiet soul who enjoyed learning about everything and quietly
helped everyone he could. Bob had served his country in the National
Guard. He spent many satisfying hours with his adult sons and helping
Kathy at the home they built in Havana.
Bob's grandfather owned one of the first radio dealerships in Georgia.
Perhaps this is where Bob started his love of electronics and computers. Bob was a pioneer engineer in wireless communications. He led in the
development of the Florida highway call box phone system that has helped so many travelers. His design of the Florida Highway Patrol
communications network led to many other states seeking his advice on how to build reliable wireless communications systems.
People remember Bob as a quiet soul who cared for family, friends and
neighbors. He was never to busy to help someone with a computer question.Bob was noted for his precision. That precision led him to help a major computer manufacturer to fix their newest computer chip.
In recent years, Bob traveled extensively with his college friend, Woody
Herrod, hiking and exploring trails and mountains around America. The
photographs he took show his love of the beautiful world we live in
Bob was the loving husband of Kathy Ferrell, and a loving father of sons
Tyler and Drew Ferrell, he is also is survived by his sisters, Dianne
(Bill) Davis of Chula, GA, Valle (Russell) Watanabe of Aiea, Hawaii, and
LeeAnne (George) Perry of Tulsa, OK. His mother Norma Ferrell lives in
Leesburg, GA.
