Biography

Norman Lee Haywood, 92, of Havana, Florida passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 in League City, Texas.

His Memroial service will be 2:00pm Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana. Family will receive friends after the service.

He was born October 23, 1916 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Newton and Eula Mae (Smyth) Haywood. In June of 1936, Norman married the love of his life, Esther. They raised nine children together. In March of 1941, he joined the U.S. Army and became a Merchant Marine. Norman also was a war time veteran as he fought in World War II. Norman's hobbies and special interests included being a Mason, carpentry, electrical work, auto mechanics and enjoyed Playboy magazine. He worked as a tool and die maker and was a partial owner in H&R Tool Specialties for most of his working career.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Esther Irene Haywood; parents, Newton and Eula Mae (Smyth) Haywood; brothers, Larry Haywood and Charlie Haywood; and one daughter, Bonnie Boardman.

Norman is survived by daughters, Betty Capps and husband George of Havana, Florida, Beverly Foley of League City, Texas, Barbara Leyva and husband Jose of Miami, Florida, Irene Garrettson and Larry Hurd of Greensboro, Maryland, Susan Kelley and husband Jim of Roberta, Georgia, and Terry Ruis and husband Hal of Macclenny, Florida; sons, Billy Haywood of Havana, Florida and Johnny Haywood and wife Linda of Miami, Florida; sisters, Ada Miller and husband Carl of Souix Falls, South Dakota, and Flora Kroher of Worcester, Massachusetts; 23 grandchildren; and 44 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.Faith Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
