Nannie Wobser

Biography

Nancy J. Wobser died March 17, 2016 in Havana, FL of natural causes.  Born September 1, 1924, in Denton, TX, she lived her 91 ½ years doing what she loved best; teaching.  She graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton with a B.S. in Education.  In 1958, she, her husband and four children made the adventurous trip up the unpaved Alaskan/Canadian highway to live a life that few people have.  Arriving in Juneau, AK with $40.00, little food and no jobs, she and her husband had teaching jobs within the day with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  Nightmute would be the first Alaskan village she would teach at, followed by Alakanuk, Akiachak, Stebbins, Noorvik, Kotzebue, Elim, Savoonga, Gambell, St. Michael and Teller.  When her husband became ill, she transferred to Arizona for his medical treatment and taught at Sacaton, AZ on the Gila River Indian Reservation.  She became an Education Specialist and was stationed in Juneau and Anchorage.  She travelled to 48 schools providing technical assistance to principals and teachers.  She retired with 32 years of devoted service.

She was predeceased by her husband, August Carl Wobser, sister Margaret Cox Robbins, brother Lumpkin Early Cox, Jr., and parents Lumpkin Early Cox, Sr. and Mabel Ethel Evans Cox, leaving her sister Pearl Cox Simmons her only living sibling.  She is survived by her four children: Carl Wobser (Debbie), Rebecca Wobser Ramsey (Lee), Greta Wobser Scavone, and Katrina Wobser Jenkins (Ron).  She left behind seven grandchildren:  Jeffrey Hege, Aaron, Brent, and Michael Wobser, Christopher Cloutier, and Luke and Beth Wheeler, as well as seven great-grandchildren:  Maddie Wobser, Josh Wobser, Shanez Kealani Lolo-Barbieto, Raven and Ember Wobser, and Noah and Paris Cloutier.
