Biography

Johnnie Mae Garland, 81, passed on Saturday, October 9, 2010. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister; she was endeared by many. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
A long time resident of Havana, she was born December 7, 1928 in Meigs, GA and raised in Calvary, GA. Her most favorite titles and accomplishments were, Wife of a Tobacco farmer, Great Mom and Grandma, Heart for children, a keen ear for anyone that needed to talk and the ability to keep secrets. She was a lady of great wisdom about life.
Through out her life she was involved with the local Lupus Foundation, Home Demonstration Club of Gadsden County, taught Boy Scouts, played basketball and sang on the radio in her younger days.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Adron Phillip Garland of Tallahassee, sister Pauline Hinson of Havana, son Marvin McGill Garland (Robin) of Tallahassee, daughter Julia Ann Quesenberry of Charlotte, NC; 4 grandchildren Julie Helms(Chris) of Charlotte, NC, Mary Ogden(Randy), Britt Garland and Kristen Garland of Tallahassee and 3 great grand children Allison and Garrett of Charlotte, NC and Regan Garland of Tallahassee.
She is predeceased by her parents, Homer Calvin McGill and Amanda Julia Childree McGill, son Johnny Phillip Garland, 2 brothers Robert McGill, Marvin McGill and 2 sisters Roseline Hunt and Alene Hawthorne.
Family will receive friends Monday, October 11, 2010 at Faith Funeral Home in Havana, FL from 5:00pm to 7:30pm (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com). Funeral service will be at 11:00am Tuesday, October 12 at Salem United Methodist Church, 202 East 9th Avenue, Havana, FL; burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Havana.
