Jencie Laing

Jencie Bales Laing, 81 of Havana passed away Wednesday March 2, 2011 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church Havana with Dr. Eric Erskine officiating. Interment will follow at Hinson Cemetery. Mrs Laings family has requested memorial contributions be made to either, Havana First Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 586 Havana, FL. 32333 or to the Gadsden Public Library.

Mrs Laing was born November 22, 1929 in Coolidge, GA, the daughter of late James William Henry Bales and the late Fannie Mae Underwood Bales. Mrs Laing was an active member of First Baptist Church. She graduated from Florida State University in 1952. She retired from Havana Public School as the librarian after 39 years.

Survivors include her daughter Scarlett Houston of Havana, and her children Matthew Houston (and wife Claudia) of Cali, Columbia; Joshua Houston of Havana, FL; and Tara Manubay (and husband Kenn )of Lacey WA. and their two children Estella and Eric Manubay.
Her brother Crandall Bales of Lake City, FL and her sister Sara Bailey of Wellborn, FL.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Edward Lee Laing, and a brother Walter Bales.
