Jean Slappey

Jean Youmans Slappey, 93, died Saturday Jan. 21, 2006 at her home in Tallahassee. Funeral Service will be Tuesday Jan. 24, at 10:30 AM (EST) at Salem United Methodist Church in Havana. Mrs Slappey was born June 22, 1912 in Decatur County, GA. She was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Havana, and member of the Women Christian Society and the Havana Garden Club She was most proud of being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and her Wednesday Bridge Club. During the war she worked with the Civil Defense Effort. Also during the war times she assumed work of her husband at the bank and insurance office.
Survivors include a son James H. Slappey (and wife Brenda) of New Castle, Colorado and a daughter Orien Elizabeth "Betty" Slappey Waddill (and husband John) of Tallahassee, Seven Grandchildren; Andrea P. Slappey, Thomas H. Slappey (wife Kari), Holly S. Pompe Van Meerdervoort (and Husband Hjalmar), sam B. Waddill (and wife Nancy), J Russ Waddill (and wife Michele), Laura W. Knight and Sally W. Sox (and husband Rich) and Two step Grandchildren, Mandy Wells (and husband Damon) and Jamey A Hancock; and Ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Womack Slappey and a brother James Perciaval Youmans, Jr.
