James Lamar Mathis, 88 of Quincy, Fl. passed away at his home surrounded by his family on August 26, 2026.

Services will be held Monday, August 31, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Quincy, Fl. A visitation will begin at 1pm followed by the funeral service at 2pm officiating will be Pastor Jeff Jackson.

Lamar is survived by his wife Frances Pearson Mathis, daughter Melanie Brown ( Butch) of La Grange, Ga., Kim Wolf of Atlanta, Ga., Son James of Ocala, Fl. Granddaughter Madison Hall ( Austin) of Bainbridge, Ga., Savannah Mathis of Courtland Il., Sierra Mathis of Ocala, Fl. and a great grandson Bennet Hall of Bainbridge, Ga., A Sister Barbara Mathis Warren of Nashville, Ga. A brother Darrell Mathis of Nashville, Ga.

Lamar is preceded in death by his parents J.D. Mathis and Estelle Rowland Mathis, brothers: Carlton Mathis and Eugene Mathis, a sister Linda Mathis Gillis, A step-mother Aretha Mathis all for Nashville, Ga.
