James Thomas Edwards, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James T. Edwards, who departed this world in the early hours of Saturday morning, February 3, 2024, after a prolonged illness.

Born on June 3, 1944, in DeFuniak Springs, FL, James spent his formative years in Okaloosa County and later graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Building Construction. Throughout his diverse career, he embraced various roles, from commercial construction to captaining the Mary Lisa, a commercial fishing boat in Destin. He also served as an officer at the FL Department of Corrections. His passion for the outdoors was evident throughout his life, as he found joy in deer hunting, boating, and fishing in the Gulf.

James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. The son of Gilbert and Sara Edwards, he is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia, his daughters Lisa Garner (and husband Michael) and Mary Ferguson (and husband Mark), his son Jim Edwards, granddaughters Brit and Karen Garner, sister Cathy Shea, and several nieces and nephews.
