Jack Calvin Overstreet, Sr., 88, of Havana, Florida, passed away on December 15, 2012 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. He was born on October 8, 1924 in Wickliffe, Kentucky to parents John Pruit Overstreet and Helen Brinich Overstreet.
He served his country in World War II as an Army Air Force aircrew member in the Southwest Pacific Theater. He also served as a counterintelligence officer in Japan and Germany during the height of the Cold War. Later in life, he taught journalism and creative writing, served as a Staff Director in the Florida legislature in both the House and the Senate, and was a volunteer mediator in the Florida court system.
He is survived by his wife, Betts, his sister, Bettie Lou Lawrence, of Auburn, PA, sons Jack Jr., of Burke, VA and Michael, of Panama City Beach, FL, his stepdaughter, Terra Reed, of Monticello, FL, and his stepson, David Riggins, of Crawfordville, FL, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
