Hal Alexander Davis, Jr., 56, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at Big Bend Hospice House after a long struggle with cancer. Hal was born July 9, 1955 in Lawrence, Kansas to Hal Alexander Davis and Carolyn Black Davis. He grew up in Quincy and was a 1972 graduate of James A. Shanks High School. After graduation from the University of Florida, Hal spent most of his life in Gadsden and Liberty counties. He loved spending time in the woods and on the water.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Scott Davis of Havana; sister Beth Rosier, and brother-in-law Chris Rosier of Hosford, Fla.; sister Sara Uhrig and brother-in-law Tom Uhrig of Tequesta, Fla; and sister Mary Paramore and brother-in-law Joseph Paramore of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Uncle Hal adored his nieces and nephews: Olean and Jabe Rosier; Hallie and Jessica Uhrig; Joseph, David, and John Thomas Paramore; and Chloe and Abigail Free. Survivors also include much beloved aunts, uncles and cousins from his large extended Davis and Black families.
Hal is preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Black Davis and Hal A. Davis; paternal grandparents Olean and John Forrest Davis; maternal grandparents Lassie Goodbread and Arthur Keith Black and aunts Kay Davis Lay and Nettie Black Ozaki.
There will not be a formal service of any kind, in accordance with his wishes. Family will celebrate his life at a later time. Hal loved spending Thanksgivings at the Davis Camp in Liberty County - a tradition of which marks 69 years in 2012. Therefore, memorial donations may be made to the H. A. Davis Camp Trust Fund. Because he received excellent and loving care there in his last days, memorial donations also can be made to the Big Bend Hospice House.
