Gerald L. Gavins 68, of Quincy, FL, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a short, but hard fought battle with cancer.
The Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church in Havana with Pastor Nathan Hoffman officiating. The service will conclude at the church. Faith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (850.539.4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com)
Mr. Gavins was born July 8, 1943 in Quincy, FL. He was a lifetime resident of Gadsden and Leon Counties. He retired after 40 years of dedicated service with the Florida Department of Transportation. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and he spent many hours doing so. He also loved to watch wildlife that was attracted to his property. Spending time with his family was very important to him. He leaves behind an amazing legacy.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shelia Tomlinson Gavins of Quincy; one daughter Teresa Bush (husband Tyler) of Havana; two sisters, Linda Huffman (husband Rick) and Debbie Bradford both of Tallahassee; one brother, Gene Gavins (wife Sally) of Woodville; four grandchildren, Travis Bush of Tallahassee, Rebecca Bush of Tallahassee, Heather Brackins (husband Freddie) of Altha, and Nichole Bush of Altha; five great-grandsons, Gavin Bush, Trace Smith, James Brackins Jr., Justin Brackins and Jacob Brackins; two brother-in-laws, Carl Tomlinson (wife Rhonda) and Rick Tomlinson; two sister-in-laws, Tina Rivers (husband Phil) and Donna Tomlinson; one niece, Christina Linton (husband Frank); and three nephews, John Tomlinson, Jimmy Gavins (wife Terri) and Rocky Gavins (wife Sandra)
