Eula Stallings Young

Mrs. Eula Stallings Young went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday evening in Cairo, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Young was born September 5, 1927 to Lucille Pendergrass Stallings and Florence Stallings of Jamieson, Florida. It was in that dirt road community that Eula grew up enjoying the freedom found in the nearby fields and woods with her three siblings. She attended Havana High School, graduated in 1945, and married Kenneth Newton Young in 1952. They raised four children while living in Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA.

After moving back to Havana, she was the welcoming face at the Gadsden County School Board Office for over ten years, but Eula’s proudest accomplishment was raising and loving four children, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, cooking fresh vegetables out of the garden, and enjoying the Florida sunshine. Eula also taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Havana Baptist Church for many years. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as an avid fan of her Atlanta Braves. Eula’s life was sweet and full of God’s greatest blessings: a close family, loving friends, the community of a church family, and a never-ending love for Jesus.

Eula is survived by her daughters, Debby Mauney (Van) of Huddleston, VA; Lucy Turbyfill (Mike) of Boone, NC; and Lynne Franks (Jay) of Lawrenceville, GA, her son; Kenneth Young (Kelly) of Cairo, GA; her grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren. Eula is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Young, her mother and father, Lucille and Florence Stallings, her sister Hazel Chambers, and her brothers Charles and David Stallings.

The funeral service (A celebration of her life) will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Havana First Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Erskine officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Havana. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 Saturday morning.
