Biography

Dr. Clara Virginia Bert 82, of Havana passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Woodmont in Tallahassee.

Her graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 28, 2011 at Woodland Cemetery in Havana, FL with Reverend Alice Parmer officiating. The family will receive friends after the service, at the gravesite. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Bld,Tallahassee, FL.32308

Dr. Bert was born January 29, 1929 in Quincy, FL. The daughter of the late Harold C. Bert, Sr. and Ella Jean McDavid Bert. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Havana. She received her BS, MS, from Florida State University. In 1957 she earned her PhD from Florida State University. Dr. Bert was a retired Vocational Education / Administrator. Her primary focus was Home Economics. Dr. Bert also worked for Florida Department of Education for many years. Dr. Bert served on many Boards and Chairs at Florida State University. Dr. Bert was a supporter of the Music Therapy Program at Big Bend Hospice, and also the Music Therapy Program at Tallahassee Memo0rial Hospital. She was Phi Delta Kappa (Past President ), Sigma Kappa (Past President), Delta Kappa Gamma (Past President) and Kappa Delta Pi.

She is survived by two nieces Jean Hughes (husband Jimmy) of Havana and Kathy Hittinger (husband Steve ) of Tallahassee; a nephew Charles H. "Chip" Bert (wife Carol ) of Tallahassee; Her sister-in-law Mary Bert of Havana. Seven great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Harold Carl 'Red" Bert, Jr.
