Dorothy Jean Medley

Dorothy Jean Dennis Medley 79. of Havana, FL passed away July 1, 2019 at her home with her loving family by her side.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel. Her family will receive friends after the service. Faith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com)
Mrs. Medley was born July 9th, 1939 in Pelham, Georgia. She graduated from Attapulgus High School in 1958, Valedictorian of her class. She worked for many years with the State of Florida, Dept. of Revenue; retiring in 2015.
A lover of all things nature, she cherished her plants and flowers. There was hardly a bush/shrub or tree she couldn’t identify. Her beloved pets were nearly always strays, she offered a loving home, food and comfort and unconditional love to any animal in need….even the occasional abandoned baby squirrel, bird, or bunny.
She loved fresh fruits and vegetables and took such pride in freezing or canning things from their garden.
A wonderful southern cook, her fried chicken was legendary. She hardly ever referred to a recipe, but loved collecting and reading cookbooks anyway.
Her warm, friendly personality was so contagious - no one ever met her that didn’t immediately love her. Having blind faith in mankind-her gentle nature allowed her to befriend the unfriendly, love the unlovable, and trust the untrustworthy. She always found the good in everyone.
Her two sisters were a vital part of her life and her heart. We all jokingly referred to them as "The Bobbsey Twins" even though there were three of them. Where one went, they all went, when one celebrated, they all did, and when 1 hurt, all three hurt. Always there for each other, they were by her side till her last breath.
A few "funny" things that were uniquely "Dorothy": when she answered the phone, she did a little sniffle first before the "hello"…not sometimes..but every single time! She said BABcock instead of Badcock, and WalMARK, not Walmart, and she said it a lot considering those were frequent stops. Even at the end she called Hospice "HosPICK".
She was a kind, smart, forgiving, gentle, loyal and sometimes funny lady. Our world is a much better place because of her.
