Biography

David F. Burns, passed away peacefully at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, on August 28, 2012 at the age of 82.
David was born in Ft. White, FL., on March 17, 1930, the youngest child of Professor David F. Burns, Sr. (Cisco) and Maggie Moore Burns. He graduated from Havana High School and attended FSU and Florida Forestry School. David excelled in High School Basketball, and his favorite pastime was FSU Football.
David served in the Army for two years, as a military policeman in Germany.
After serving his country he worked as a Forestry Ranger in Gadsden County. He went on to a career in sales.
After moving from Quincy to Tallahassee, he then settled in Havana to be near his friends. He looked forward to going to the coffee shop to catch up on the local news. David was a southern gentleman, with a wonderful heart and encouraging voice.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Havana, Florida.
David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Katie Burns. Two children, Lori Gail Burns Sobolsy (husband Dan) and John David Burns. Three step-sons, Jeffery Merritt (wife Tracy), John (Wesley) Merritt (wife Alison) and Andy Merritt (fiancé© Jenny Stokes). A step-grand daughter Kelsie Merritt.
Services for Mr. Burns will be on September 1st, 11am at First Baptist Church in Havana, Florida, Dr. Eric Erskine will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services.
