Biography

Barbara Powell Boynton, age 82, died December 16, 2014, at the home of her daughter and sister in Wakulla County.

Mrs. Boynton was a native of Concord, the daughter of the late James Miner Powell and Nan Edwards Powell. She was the wife of James M. Boynton (Jimmy) and lived in Florida all of her life.

Barbara was employed with the State of Florida for 17 years before becoming office manager for Jimmy Boynton Realty, Inc. where she worked until she and Jimmy retired in 1994.

She enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband and gardening. She was a member of the Tallahassee Daylily Society and hybridized daylilies, specializing in spiders and polytepals. While living in Wakulla County, Barbara was a member of the Wakulla Iris Garden Club and shared her daylilies with friends there.

She was a charter member of the Tallahassee Genealogical Society and a family historian. Barbara's research on families in the Concord area prompted her to turn that research into a genealogy book, published in 1999, entitled "Seven Eastern Gadsden County, Florida, Cemeteries with Genealogical Information."

Mrs. Boynton is survived by two daughters, Angela Boynton Cassidy, of Woodville, and Nora Boynton Bobek (Marty), of Tallahassee; a son, Ben H. Boynton (Susan); a sister Donna Warlick, of Woodville; five grandchildren: Casey Smith (Kari) of Bristol; Jessica Miller (Andy) of Woodville; Garrett Bobek, Katie and Daniel Boynton, of Tallahassee; five great grandchildren; two nephews, Steven Thornton (Lisa), of Neptune Beach, FL, and Tom Thornton, of Tallahassee.

Family will have visitation at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana on Thursday, December 18, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a private services at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vickers Cemetery, Inc., c/o Donna Warlick, Treasurer, 252 Bob Miller Road, Crawfordville, FL 32327, or the Shelfer Cemetery Assn., P. O. Box 118, Havana, FL 32333.
